record video spots for my church. I need to go out to people’s houses, offices, outdoors, and in my studio. I was looking for a mic that could do lots of things. I would have settled for a jack of all trades but the Blue Yeti Pro Multipattern Condenser Microphone is closer to a master. I can just take the laptop and a small point and shoot camera and this mic to get good sound and images. I can also hook it to my AH-A1 through the XLR inputs for more serious work. In both modes the recording noise is well reduced and the fidelity is excellent.
Not that it is without its quirks. I find that I need to use a compressed to boost the sound (once in a while coupled with a noise gate). Since GarageBand has both readily available things work out well. For studio work I can get great results through the USB connection or even better results using two channels of my Fast Track Ultra. If you have a MAC, do not be fooled by the low indicated gain, use a compresser. Also, set the audio midi to full volume, as others have reported. The sound is clear and clean. I works great in garage band, Logic PRO, Sound Track, and FCP. This one would make a great first mic.
